I've torn down a lot of different speaker cabinets from all over the price spectrum. There is a LOT of hype, particularly in the studio monitor/hifi speaker markets. When you get down to it, there is only so much you can improve in transducers.
The technology Equator is using goes beyond hype. The transducers are nothing special and ctive monitors are extremely common these days. BUT, bi-amping and DSP eliminate the achilles heel of most monitors, which is the passive crossover network. In concert sound, we've known for years that passive crossovers make a mess by causing phase anomalies, which translates to unpredictable frequency response. Sometimes it works, such as in NS10, but the technology to do something better is here, so why not use it?
Bi-amping and coaxial drivers produce more linear frequency response across a bigger listening area, and DSP allows the speaker to be voiced and time-aligned.

Clarity with some thump

Wanted something for mixing pop, rock, jazz, and classical. Midrange is the clearest I've heard. Has a decent thump in the bass - not enough for Hip Hop and EDM, but enough for what I need. Imaging and clarity are so revealing, I'm hearing things in commercial tracks I never knew were there.

Fantastic

I have previously used D5s so I thought I knew what to expect. But these actually have MORE detail in the mids than the D5s and yes, they have the low end thump I was looking for. The imaging is amazing ... vocals sound like they're right between the two speakers. Reverb trails are clearer than I've ever heard them. You've heard "fix it in the Mix" ... well I have.
