The Q10 studio monitor is a great balance of size and punch. This monitor maintains the tonal characteristics of its big brother, the Q12 but with a smaller footprint and reduced weight. The system delivers 200 watts of continuous power to the woofer and 200 watts of continuous power to the horn, 400 watts and 400 watts of peak power. Features a 10" coaxial LF speaker with a real horn compression driver that can reach sound pressure levels of 112 dB.

 

Although the Q10 is great for any type of studio monitor situation, they have found their way into many sound for film and classical recording environments. The London Philharmonic was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London for the score to the film Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Jim Austin of Skywalker Sound has commented on how wide the sweet spot is and was impressed by the overall sound of the Q10s. He said that "the coax more closely gives that theatre experience."  This may be why many film composers have gravitated towards this model. 

 

Recently Scott Campbell, engineer for producer Glen Ballard, contacted us to set up an evaluation of Q10s. The speakers were brought to the legandary Stevie Nicks’ house where she would be recording tracks with Glen Ballard and Dave Stewart producing.  The Q10s were evaluated for about a week, at which time Stevie was sold. 

 

Included is the Equator Control software application that enables a mix engineer to manually compensate for acoustic anomalies such as issues created by speaker placement and boundary conditions within the listening environment. Along with the environmental compensation, this included software also provides extraordinary control over the monitors — including equalization, mute, solo, and phase.
